Jenny Pendlebury

Manager / Head Surf Coach

Jen has been surfing since moving to Newquay in 2007 and now competes on the British Longboard Union and UK Pro Tour. Current British Ladies Longboard Champion and currently ranked 8th on the European WSL 2018. She is a qualified sports therapist and ISA level 2 surf coach with 9 years instructor experience in the UK, Ireland, Mexico, Sri Lanka and Portugal. When she is not working, Jen travels as much as she can and has surfed many locations around the world including North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.

Fun Fact:

Not many people know that I'm also the European tiddlywink champion.

Simon Shields

Supervisor, Head Surf Instructor & Coasteer Leader

I had my first taste of surfing in australia in 1996 and was instantly hooked. I moved to cornwall with my dad in 2001 and have been surfing ever since. I did alot of competitions when i was younger but have recently been focusing on free surfing and travelling. I am in my third year at quiksilver and look forward to many more years sharing my surfing experience with others.

Fun Fact:

Simon spends so much time in the sea he has actually developed gills to breathe under water

Dan Stapleford

Surf Instructor

Dan is an all round legend and master of many crafts. Currently studying for a FDSC in Surf Science at Newquay College, hopefully progressing onto the Degree course in Marine Sports. Dan has been surfing many years and aids his surfing with yoga and mind reflecting practice and meditation. A frequent face on the Quiksilver Team for over 4 years, he is now a permenant fixture for summer 2018.

Fun Fact:

Dan is also a master yogi and can tie himself in knots while doing a handstand at the same time

Grant Young


I am originally from Scotland but learnt to surf in the canary islands when I was fifteen, since then I have spent most of my time and money travelling and surfing. After moving to newquay 5 years ago to study marine conservation in newquay and marine biology in plymouth I became a surf coach and lead coasteer guide for quiksilver and have been loving it ever since.

Fun Fact:

You can ask me the name of any animal you see coasteering and I'll know it. If I don't, I owe you an ice cream.

Jim Robinson

Surf Coach / Lead Coasteer Guide

Jim is originally from Hastings where he learnt to surf as a teenager and worked on the beach for the RNLI Lifeguards. He moved to Newquay a couple of years ago in search of better quality waves and now works everyday at the beach, surf coaching and coasteering with the Quiksilver Surf School. Jim has travelled and surfed in Australia, Indonesia, France, Spain, California, his favourite surf spot is Uluwatu in Bali. 

Fun Fact:

I have an unusually big gap between my big toes!! Helps me surf better :)

Betsy Townsend

Surf Coach

I'm from Newquay and started surfing when I was 11. Now I've finished school I'm keen to surf coach a lot more, 2015 is my 2nd year coaching at Quiksilver and I'm loving every minute!

Fun Fact:

I can do the splits, and have been known to demonstrate them whilst surfing a foamy.

Sarah Thomson

Surf Coach / Coasteer Assistant

I first started coaching when I was 17 and have been to Central America, North Africa, Indonesia and Europe for work. I instantly fell in love with the job and hope to work as a coach for many more years to come. I am a competitive surfer on the UKPST, riding for local companies, I work as a professional contemporary dancer and am also about to dive into the world of Ultra Marathon Running!

Fun Fact:

My nickname growing up was 'Troll' because my hair is fully mouldable and stands on end ... Come and give it a go if ya want!
